ENRUC Network fourth webinar: “Water resources and disaster risk management of flash floods in the context of armed conflict and climate change in Sudan”

This webinar featured two presentations addressing critical issues in Sudan. Prof. Mohammed Basheer discussed the current armed conflict in Sudan and its impacts on the economy and water resources. The conflict has severely disrupted water supply systems, damaged critical infrastructure, and exacerbated existing water scarcity issues. Prof. Gamal M. Abdo focused on flash flood management in Wadi systems, specifically examining the case of Gash Wadi in Kassala, Eastern Sudan. This presentation likely explored the challenges of managing flash floods in arid regions, including the need for integrated approaches combining engineering solutions, geoinformatics, and sustainable water resource management strategies. Both presentations highlighted the complex interplay between conflict, climate change, and water resource management in Sudan, emphasizing the urgent need for effective solutions to address these interconnected challenges.
